पुत्र पाने की इच्छा से वह व्यापारी प्रति सोमवार भगवान शिव की व्रत-पूजा किया करता था। सायंकाल को व्यापारी शिव मंदिर में जाकर भगवान शिव के सामने घी का दीपक जलाया करता था।

उस व्यापारी की भक्ति देखकर एक दिन पार्वती ने भगवान शिव से कहा- ‘हे प्राणनाथ, यह व्यापारी आपका सच्चा भक्त है। कितने दिनों से यह सोमवार का व्रत और पूजा नियमित कर रहा है। भगवान, आप इस व्यापारी की मनोकामना अवश्य पूर्ण करें।’
